Statement of the Problem It is February of 2000 and Louis Elson, managing partner for Palamon Capital Partners was faced with an investment opportunity that could give his investment company the growth potential it was looking for. The company Palamon would be investing in was TeamSystems S.p.A., an Italian software company. The deal they were offered was a 51% stake of TeamSystems for EUR25.9 million (ITL50.233). Elson now had to figure out if TeamSystems was worth the amount they offered for it. This is a difficult task for a private company.
